My name is Jordan Gemaehlich. I am a freelance Director and Stage Manager as well as the Artistic and
Administrative Intern at Shrunken Shakespeare and Studio Coordinator at Sunlight Studios based in NYC.
An attendee of the Studio BFA program at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, my work has
been seen across the Dallas and New York stages and classrooms.
Throughout my career, I find myself working both in the classics and in contemporary works.
Allowing my range and knowledge to handle text created in a new work that has yet to be produced.
Creating this duality in my work is pivotal, as I believe that the theatre should be producing works that
are of the immediate and allow the invisible to become visible in a
dynamic and beautiful way unlike any other art form. My goal is to create an experience for each of my
audiences, as to allow every person the gift of being able to escape their everyday realities and be
challenged by the stories and characters on stage. Audiences should never feel overlooked, as these
stories are for them. I am a story teller for the common-man, and feel that if theatre is not the greatest
unifying factor of human character and nature one can experience…we have neglected our audiences.
While in search for that honestly and experience in my own work, I am also on the hunt for plays that have
poetry in both language and design. It is hard for me not to compare theatre to an almost religious
experience. As a Director it is my job to have faith. Faith that one word in a play can change a person’s
outlook on life. Faith that an image created on stage can help us see a truth inside ourselves
that we had never discovered before. And most importantly, faith that an audience of all ideas, races, sexes,
denominations, life experiences can come together in the
unexplainable magic of the communal experience theatre brings.
That is revolutionary.
That is why I do what I do.
